When you first wake up, take a few moments to awaken your senses. First, focus on what you can see. Notice shapes, colors, lines, patterns. Next, focus on what you can hear. Traffic, people, a fan, music or television or radio, your breath, or even silence. Now, what can you smell? Even if you can’t smell anything, think of your favorite scent. Can you taste anything? What are you looking forward to tasting today? And touch, feel the sensation of your body on the bed, touch your skin, your clothing, your sheets. Give thanks for your senses and rise to greet the day. If any of your senses are impaired, give thanks for those senses that work well.
